EMDR & TRAUMA THERAPY • BRISTOL & ONLINE

Every part of you is welcome.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy for adults who want to understand the different parts of themselves - the part that masks, the part that shuts down, the part that carries old pain, without needing to fix or override any of them.

WHAT IS IFS?

IFS stands for Internal Family Systems. It works with the idea that we're not one single self, but a whole internal system of "parts" — each with its own feelings, beliefs, and job to do.

There's often a part that people-pleases, a part that goes into shutdown when things get too much, a part that's always scanning for danger, a part that just wants to disappear into something absorbing until the world quietens down.

None of these parts are problems to fix. IFS doesn't ask you to get rid of a part ; it asks what that part needs, and helps you build a relationship with it from a calm, grounded place IFS calls "Self."

WHAT IFS CAN HELP WITH

EMDR is effective for a wide range of difficulties, not just single-event trauma. I work with adults of all backgrounds on:

  • Masking and the exhaustion of performing "fine"

  • Shutdown and autistic burnout

  • Internal conflict — the part that wants to rest vs. the part that won't let you

  • Difficulty identifying or naming feelings

  • Old pain carried from being misunderstood or excluded

  • Self-criticism and harsh internal voices

  • Building self-compassion and self-trust

I have lived experience as an autistic person of the parts system many neurodivergent people carry - including how monotropic flow can become a place a part disappears to, away from parts that are in pain.

MY APPROACH

IFS can work well on its own, or alongside EMDR. I often weave the two together, using parts language to prepare for EMDR reprocessing and checking in with protective parts throughout, so nothing gets rushed past.

NEURODIVERGENCE & IFS

"To be neurodivergent in the world is to carry a number of parts - and they often look different to how the neuromajority experiences theirs."

I bring my own lived experience as an autistic person to this work. You will not need to mask, explain yourself, or translate your experience into neurotypical terms.
